ROHC forMulticast Distribution Services

2005
The headercompression mechanisms havebeen defined toworkonapeer-to-peer noisy links, nevertheless the interest tointegrate theseschemesinmulticast diffusion is increasing because thisoption willoffer bandwidth savings. In thispaper, ROHC unidirectional modeisusedasa current possibility tomakeheader compression tomulticast packets. Ina multicast distribution service users jointhegroupatanytime. Thus, theuseofROHC header compression will create awaiting timetostart receiving theapplication information because allthe headerinformation issentina periodical time.A Context Recovery Process (CRP)isproposed toimprove ROHC multicast performance. ThisCRP reduces thewaiting timetoreceive the context andmaydecrease theprobability ofcontext damageina noisy link. Thewaiting timetoreceive thecontext isa new indicator tobeconsidered inaddition toROHC performance indicators, whenstudying ROHC multicast performance. Our solution isevaluated bysimulation means.
