Ultrastructural Changes in the Hepatopancreas Cells of Saduria Entomon (Linnaeus, 1758) (Isopoda, Valvifera) From the Baltic Infected With Cryptococcus Laurentii (Kufferath) Skinner

1997
Fine structural observations of the hepatopancreas of Saduria entomon (Linnaeus, 1758) infected with Cryptococcus laurentii (Kufferath) Skinner revealed distinct pathological changes in epithelial cells A and B. The lesions were characterized by a distortion of microvilli, disorganization of the basal labyrinthial system, and abnormal arrangement of nuclear chromatin in A and B cells. In A cells mitochondria are damaged. In B cells there appear numerous secondary lysosomes, and the endoplasmic reticulum is reduced and turns vesicular. In all A cells pathological changes were similar, while in B cells the level of their destruction varied.
