CT and MRI Findings of Extrapleural Solitary Fibrous Tumor

2008
Objective To report CT and MR appearances of extrapleural solitary fibrous tumors (ESFTs).Materials and Methods CT and MR findings in 7 patients with pathologically proved ESFTs were analyzed retrospectively. Results The tumor was found in the orbit in 2 cases,in the retroperitoneum in 2 cases,in the subdural space of the thoracic spine in 1 case,in the pelvic cavity in 1 case, and in the testis in 1 case.CT showed a solitary round or oval well circumscribed mass in all 7 cases with homogeneous density in 4 cases and heterogeneous density in 3 cases. The tumor demonstrated inhomogeneously low or isointense signal on T1WI and low signal on T2WI.Marked enhancement of solid components in the tumor was identified on postcontrast images. Conclusion A solitary round or oval well circumscribed mass and low signal on T2WI suggested ESFT.
