The Anorexia Nervosa Disorder that Reflected in To the Bone Film by Marti Noxon

This research examines anorexia nervosa disorder in the film To the Bone, where eating disorder of anorexia nervosa causes a person to have a very small body or weight below normal due to a deviant diet. The analysis is directed how a deviant diet is carried out in this film, thus made a person experience the eating disorder of anorexia nervosa. The purpose of this research is to identify the characteristics of anorexia nervosa, the factors that cause it, and how to treat anorexia nervosa as depicted in the film To the Bone. The focus of this research is the main character in the film, namely Ellen, played by Lily Collins. This research used qualitative research with descriptive method. The Source of data in this research is in the form of pictures, dialogues, and the film script itself, namely To the Bone film by Marti Noxon. In the process of data collecting, researchers used documentation techniques by Moleong. While in the process of analyzing data, researchers used content analysis techniques by Bodgan & Biklen. The results of this study, researchers found that (1) there are four characteristics of anorexia nervosa indicating that Ellen has anorexia nervosa, there are maintain of body weight, fear of gaining weight, showing a significant disturbances in body shape perception, and amenorrhea. (2) As for the factors that cause anorexia nervosa experienced by Ellen, the researcher found that one of the factors causing is psychological factors. Then (3) the treatment used in this film is psychosocial treatment. Where psychosocial treatment is divided into several therapies, first structured inpatient, individual therapy, family therapy, and support groups.
