The coordination chemistry of mixed pyridine-phenol and phenanthroline-phenol ligands; synthesis and crystal structure of [PdL1Cl]·(CH2Cl2) [HL1 6-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2,2′-bipyridine]

Abstract Reaction of the N,N,O-terdentate ligands 6-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2,2′-bipyridine (HL 1 ) and 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-1,10-phenanthroline (HL 2 ) with Na 2 PdCl 4 ·3H 2 O afforded the complexes [PdL 1 Cl] and [PdL 2 Cl]; the crystal structure of [PdL 1 Cl]·(CH 2 Cl 2 ) shows it to be a square-planar monomer with extensive intramolecular π-stacking interactions involving the aromatic ligands.
