A study of thermodynamic properties of nematic 4-n-octyloxyphenyl-4'-n-pentyloxybenzoate-nonmesomorphic component binary solutions by gas-liquid chromatography

2002
The thermodynamic characteristics of infinitely dilute solutions of nonmesomorphic substances (n-hexane, cyclohexane, n-heptane, 1-heptene, n-octane, 1-octen, cyclooctane, tetrachloromethane, benzene, m-xylene, and p-xylene) in 4-n-octyloxyphenyl-4'-n-pentyloxybenzoate nematic solvent were studied by gas-liquid chromatography. The specific retention volume V T g of the sorbate was measured using a new method of "cold" column calibration. The experimentally determined thermodynamic characteristics of the solutions were compared with the calculation results in terms of the mean molecular field theory.
