Refractive index measurement and room-temperature self-frequency-doubled laser operation of the Nd:MgO:LiNbO3 crystal

Refractive index measurement and room temperature self-frequency doubled laser action of the Nd:MgO:LiNbO 3 crystal are reported for the first time. Second-harmonic output of 400 μJ per pulse has been obtained at 26°C with a miniature xenon flashlamp as the pump source. The threshold pump energy is smaller than 4.8 J. The laser operates in the temperature range of 25-45°C. No photorefractive damage of the laser material has been observed
