A Method for the Preparation of a Jute-batching Emulsion by Using Castor Oil

1996
A method is reported for the preparation of a jute-batching emulsion by using castor oil. The castor oil, warm water at 40°C, and Nonidet (as emulsifying agent) in the proportions of 10:89.5:0.5 were found to be the optimum for preparation of the emulsion. The emulsion was found to be stable, even for as long as seven days. The test yarns (having a total oil content of 1.10%) prepared by using the castor-oil emulsion were compared with yarns (total oil content 4.5%) prepared by using a conventional mineral-oil emulsion. The yarns prepared by using the castor-oil emulsion were found to compare well with yarns prepared by using a conventional mineral-oil emulsion on the same jute-mill machinery.
