MAP — MANUFACTURING AUTOMATION PROTOCOL

1987
The importance of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) and the central role of communications i n that respect have pushed the specification of MAP. These specifications have been worked out by cooperating bodies comprising users and vendors. The effort required for such an undertaking has resulted in a number of publications which may confuse newcomers. This paper is the attempt to give an overview describing the specified layers, the MAP components, the situation on the market and the first realisations. Future trends and items of interest which require special care are discussed, and relations to other relevant areas are mentioned.
