Effect of mental intervention on menopause women with initially wearing complex removable partial denture

Objective To investigate the effect of oral health education and mental intervention on prosthodontic treatments for post-menopausal female patients who wear complex removable partial dentures for the first time. Methods Ninety-eight post-menopausal female patients were included in this study and randomly divided into two groups. There were forty-nine patients in the experimental group. Oral health instruction and mental intervention was conducted for the patients in this group during treatments. Forty-nine patients in the control group were treated without oral health instruction and mental intervention. Patient satisfaction to RPDs with reference to esthetics,phonetics,bite,retention and comfort was investigated one and three months post-operatively. The times required for denture adjustment was also compared. Results Patients' satisfaction to comfort,mastication,speaking and times for denture adjustment were improved significantly in experimental groups in comparison with the control group( P 0. 05). Conclusion Mental intervention on the basis of psychological characteristics of post-menopausal female patients who undertook complex prosthodontic treatments has positive influence on patients' comfort and satisfaction.
