A Motivation for an Image Processing Course

2019
Image processing is generally presented in a signal and systems environment which is disregarded to some business oriented Informatics Engineering students as heavy mathematical and boring. Only a few of these students make a full course on Signal and Systems and therefore they cannot access to the classical Image Processing or Computer Vision courses On the other hand, students use social networking and post process their photos using the social app provided apps. We decided to use this interest in photo post-processing as a motivation to engage students in the technical aspects of Image Processing. We present some examples of the techniques developed in the course beginning with photography basics techniques, post processing in some open source programs and finally attempt to get the same result using image operations as developed in lectures.
