PRINCIPAIS CALCIFICAÇÕES EM TECIDO MOLE VISUALIZADAS RADIOGRAFICAMENTE: uma revisão de literatura

2021
Calcification is a biochemical phenomenon that normally occurs throughout the human body due to the deposition of calcium salts, mainly calcium phosphate. However, due to changes in cell metabolism, calcifications considered pathological can occur. Such calcifications are classified as dystrophic, idiopathic and metastatic. The need to understand the radiographic differences and reach an accurate diagnosis of soft tissue calcifications is of real importance for Dentistry, given the difficulty encountered by dental surgeons in differentiating them and obtaining precision in the diagnosis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop an exploratory literature review about the main existing soft tissue calcifications, as well as their radiographic characteristics and their respective differential diagnoses. The results showed that the main soft tissue calcifications found in the literature are: tonsilolites, sialoliths and atheromatous calcification of the carotid artery.
