Last Word From Linear to Circular, An Ambitious but Necessary Goal

2021
Abstract . Our modern food and agricultural systems are impressive achievements that have advanced over time to meet the continuing increases in the global demand for food. However, our current rate of consumption and the losses incurred during production, including waste of nearly half of the produced food along with the embedded materials and resources, cannot last much longer. Continuing on the current path, focusing primarily on production efficiency and profitability while depleting limited natural resources, cannot meet the goal of increasing food production by 60% to 70% by 2050. It also has the potential of irreparably damaging the Earth‘s resources.
