Case study 4: James Campbell High School

James Campbell High School (JCHS) is an urban/suburban high school located in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. In the 2005-2006 school year, JCHS served 2200 students from Ewa/ Ewa Beach along the west shore of Pearl Harbor. Thirty-five per cent of students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. The student population is remarkably diverse, with 44 per cent Filipino, 15 per cent part-Hawaiian, seven per cent Caucasian, five per cent Samoan, three per cent each of African American, Hawaiian, Hispanic, and Japanese, with Korean, Portuguese, Chinese, Native American, Indo-Chinese and others making up the remaining 17 per cent. Ten per cent of students are non-native English speakers.
