Comparison between Field Measurements and Numerical Analysis for Road Embankment Settlements

2014
This paper presents consolidation analyses of the foundation soil for the construction of a state road embankment near the city of Krapina in Croatia. There are two clay layers of low permeability and high compressibility in the foundation soil. Vertical drains were installed in order to accelerate the consolidation process. Settlements were monitored over the period of 11 months, by horizontal inclinometers. These meas-urements enabled the comparison between in-situ soil settlements and values calculated through back-analyses.
