Data Collection Platform for Smart City with Gigabit V2X Communication over 60 GHz Band

2021
By collecting huge sensor data from vehicles and visualizing the city, various services can be realized for the smart city, such as road monitoring for reducing traffic accidents and early detection of problems in the city. This can be achieved by next generation Vehicle-to-Everything communication using 60 GHz band mmWave technology, which is excellent for high-capacity data transmission. In this paper, the performance of a proposed data collection platform with 60 GHz technology is evaluated through field test with a vehicle. The system features fast initial link setup with up to 30 times shorter setup time and high-speed response server for 11 times higher average throughput, which are essential for supporting mobility use cases. The platform enables transmission of large amounts of data from vehicles to roadside edge servers and is expected to contribute towards solving problems in the city and realizing the smart cities of the future.
