SARCOMARTOID CARCINOMA OF THE SMALL INTESTINE: A CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

2012
Sarcomatoid carcinoma(SCA) of the small bowel is rare; to our knowledge, 20 cases have been reported to date in the literature under several names. We report an additional case occurring in the jejunum of a 57-year-old man. The patient was associated with anorexia, a 10-kg weight loss in 5 months, gastrointestinal hemorrhage and fatigue. Abdominal computed tomography showed midjejunal narrowing with mass effect in the left upper abdomen and metastattic mass at the liver . Colonoscopy findings were normal. Enteroscopy showed a 5 cm mass in the jejunum at 165 cm. Laparotomy was performed, and immunohistochemical findings revealed sarcomatoid carcinoma in the small intestine. The diagnosis was confirmed by light microscopic and immunohistochemical findings.
