A Late Neolithic Seal from Herzliya

1992
nia B.C.E. poses difficulties for understanding the cultural development of the region; for dating assemblages; and for correlating its northern, central, and southern cultures. Those problems have intrigued many scholars, who have proposed various solutions for relating the different cultures in the region (e.g., de Contenson 1963; Perrot 1968; Kaplan 1969; Copeland 1969; Kirkbride 1971; Mellaart 1975; Aurenche et al. 1981; Copeland and Hours 1987; Gilead 1988: 406, table 2). Small artistic and glyptic artifacts are of great importance for determining chronological and cultural relations between regions. Such artifacts serve as evidence of interaction between cultures, whether through trade or through the transfer of ideas or artistic motifs. This article presents for the first time a seal discovered at the Late Neolithic
