A Christian-Jewish Dialogue

2013
A PUBLIC DIALOGUE took place on November 5, 1975 at Ilford Town Hall, between the Bishop of Stepney, Trevor Hudleston, and Hyam Maccoby, which centred on ‘The Christian Responsibility for Anti-Semitism’, with special reference to the thesis advanced in Rosemary Reuther's book, Faith and Fratricide (extensively reviewed in The Jewish Quarterly, Spring—Summer, 1975). The packed meeting was held under the auspices of the Ilford B'nei Brith Lodge under the chairmanship of Mr. Raymond Keene. We present the opening statements by the two speakers defining the area of the controversy. These are followed by a summary of the points raised in the ensuing discussion. We invite readers' comments which we hope to publish in a subsequent issue.
