Tumor-Specific Approach: Oligodendroglioma (IDH1 Mutated, 1p/19q Deleted)

Oligodendroglioma is a subtype of gliomas which tends to have better outcome compared to other malignant gliomas (astrocytomas) of similar grade. Traditionally, these tumors were managed with a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. The introduction of molecular genetics has allowed us to further characterize these tumors that will help in predicting tumor prognosis and aid in treatment planning. This chapter aims to review the current state of oligodendroglioma, the clinical/histologic/molecular characterization, and current/future treatment paradigms.
