Installation practice within the pharmaceutical industry

The authors detail current electrical engineering installation practice within the pharmaceutical industry and is generally related to one particular project, namely a new pharmaceutical research and development building now nearing completion for Glaxo Group Research Ltd. at Ware, Hertfordshire, England. This building is at present the largest R&D project within Europe. Various topics are covered and these include the HV/LV network, general power and lighting installations, data and communications, and other ancillary services. The authors expand and detail one or two items of interest that evolved during the design and construction period. These include modifications made to the distribution network, comparative cost studies of alternative lighting schemes, methods of achieving good building management system control, project management etc.
