La intervención arqueológica en el yacimiento de la cueva de Santa Catalina

The situation, the physical surrounding and the geomorphological characteristics of the Santa Catalina cave are described in this work. Thereby, the investigations and actions developed in it are reported, including the one made by ourselves between the years 1982-2000. The characteristics of the sedimentary deposits and the structures found in the entrance of the cave are explained in detail. A four level stratigraphic sequence has been recognized in which the first three ones are archaeologically fertile. The recovered materials let us attribute the first level to the Azilian, the second to the final Magdalenian and the third to the Upper Magdalenian. In the Magdalenian levels, burning structures of great power have been exposed to view.
