Design and verification of MSK based on FPGA

2013
The Minimum Shift Keying (MSK) technology fits in information transmission system of radar targets due to its superior performance in providing low sidelobe spectral energy and reduced sidelobe regrowth. The Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) technology is also considered because of its superior advantage in relative bandwidth, frequency conversion time and continuous phase. After in-depth study of the principle of MSK and DDS, this paper provides a digital model of MSK modulator and demodulator, and DDS which is employed to generate the modulated signal is also designed based on FPGA. Then verification of the implemented digital model is done by comparing the resultant MSK modulated and demodulated waveform to the theoretical ones, which showed right design. This full-digital model based on FPGA shortens the design cycle than traditional circuit design but obtain higher reliability.
