Modeling a roll-off container transportation worker dose scenario for BRC radwaste

1990
In a recent study commissioned by the Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Authority, the radiological impacts of short-lived radionuclide wastes disposed of in municipal solid waste streams were investigated. It was assumed in that study that the radwaste was picked up during the routine collection of municipal waste. For most of the radionuclides examined in that study, the allowable concentrations for disposal of such wastes were limited by the dose projected to be received by the transportation worker during collection. Although modified, the transportation worker scenario was essentially the IMPACTS methodology. A scenario for estimating the dose to transportation workers collecting roll-off containers containing institutionally generated below regulatory concern (BRC) radwaste has since been investigated. The radiological impacts for this scenario were evaluated using the QAD-CGGP point-kernel code on an IBM personal computer.
