Integrated Medical Communication and Retrieval Sytem: Patient

The University Hospital Rotterdam (consisting of an adults hospital (1.000 beds) and a childrens hospital (238 beds)) joined the BAZIS foundation in 1976. The hospital information system (HIS) of BAZIS (1) consists of more than sixty subsystems for a large variety of applications which are developed for a highly integrated environment. In our hospital more than 1.000 terminals are connected to the HIS which is running on a cluster of a VAX 11/785 and a MicroVAX 3200. The distributed database consists of a large variety of actual and historical data of almost one million patients.
