U.S. / Japan Large Scale Cooperative Research Program for Steel Structures
1994
The US/Japan Cooperative Research Program Utilizing Large Scale Test Facilities for Earthquake Resistant Design was initiated in 1980 using a combination of full-scale, small-scale, subassemblage and component tests with analytic investigations of specific building structures. The experiments were carried out using static, static cyclic, computer on-line (pseudo-dynamic), and dynamic shaking table tests at unique facilities in the USA and Japan. The coordinated research activities, and scientific and personnel exchanges have produced results which could not have been achieved by individual efforts in the USA or Japan. This paper focuses on Phase 2 of this cooperative research program - Structural Steel Building.
