COLONIC LIPOMA OF THE BAUHIN VALVE WITH REPEATED INTUSSUSCEPTION

1995
This is to report a case of repeatedly intussuscepted lipoma of the large intestine which was successfully treated with simple resection of the tumor without any colectomy. A 42-year-old woman was examined for iron defficiency anemia. Barium enema revealed a tumor about 8cm in diameter intussuscepted to the transverse colon. The patient was diagnosed as having a lipoma origined from the Bauhin valve by CT and colonic fiberscopy, and underwent simple tumorectomy. Two hundred and six cases including this case have been reported in this country. These 206 cases were analyzed in terms of the preoperative diagnosis, diagnostic examination and therapeutic procedure. It can be concluded that the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis is still unsatisfactory and there is a tendency to perform unnecessary surgical intervention.
