Analysis of collagen fibres on remodelling

2015
Remodelling of biological tissue is an important evolutionary process in any organ which has an increasing field of research focus during recent years. Collagen being one of the load bearing protein takes the responsibility of repair and regeneration on application of external mechanical load. Presented in this paper is a study on its remodelling through a mathematical model in the aim of analysing load bearing capability of collagen fibres. Von Mises distribution used to model the dispersion and strain energy density function (SEDF) is used to model the reorientation process. The results demonstrate the reorientation process in response to the mechanical stimuli and its value assessment for complete re-alignment. The results thus obtained through modelling are experimentally validated by performing tensile strength test on the extracted collagen from animal waste. This kind of knowledge about the behaviour of collagen on different condition could be one useful information for physicians while performing/...
