System Identification of Meloland Road Overcrossing

1989
The Meloland Road Overcrossing (MRO) is a two-span reinforced concrete bridge structure located east of El Centro, California, 0.3 mi from the Imperial Fault. The Imperial Valley Earthquake triggered 26 strong motion accelerometers previously deployed at the MRO. This paper describes two investigations of the seismic and dynamic response of the MRO. The first involved a system identification study of the MRO using the above strong-motion records. The second investigation is a recently-initiated study of soil-structure interaction effects at the MRO using full-scale dynamic testing of the bridge, system identification methods for developing finite element models of the MRO, and detailed seismic analysis.
