HIV / AIDS networking in Kenya. Phase I final report.

1999
This report presents the findings and recommendations from a 6-week research project commissioned by ActionAid to look at networking of HIV/AIDS organizations in Kenya. The research constitutes Phase I of a two-phase project that aims to develop and strengthen HIV/AIDS networks in the African region. The report is divided in three chapters. The first chapter looks at the methodology used during the research. Chapter two presents some of the experiences and problems of networking in Kenya. Chapter three elaborates on the networks’ role in carrying out advocacy work for policy changes and practice related to HIV/AIDS. The final section outlines some key lessons and recommendations for developing and supporting the formation of networks. Much emphasis is given on how to build up the level of ownership felt by member organizations for their network. The recommendations also include precautionary measures to donors on the kind of support they can provide to networks to ensure that the young network stays very much a child of the member organizations and not of the donor.
