Optimization of Geometry and Electrode Coverage of Trapezoidal Piezoelectric Energy Harvester for Specific Frequency

In this paper, to get a high energy storage capacity, the geometry and electrode coverage of cantilevered trapezoidal piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) with proof mass was designed and optimized for 50 Hz vibration environment, and it was verified by COMSOL simulations and experiments. The synchronous charge extraction circuit (SECE) is used to isolate the effect of the load on the recovered power in experiments. Under the same excitation of constant acceleration of 3 m/s2, trapezoidal and rectangular PEHs with the same volume are compared on the power generation capacity, the result shows that the output power of trapezoidal piezoelectric energy harvester is 31.6% higher than that of rectangular.
