Multilayered Wrinkle Textures from Strain

2004
We present a method to enrich simulated garment data with wrinkle textures which are generated procedurally and provide a very realistic appearance. An algorithm by Hadap et al., where user defined wrinkle textures are provided, is extended by automatic texture generation. From the strain deformation tensor of the simulated mesh we directly generate a multilayered wrinkle texture. This methods allows faster simulation times than a mesh with corresponding high resolution. However the wrinkles are physically plausible and provide convincing wrinkle animations on simulated garment meshes without user interaction. We apply the wrinkle textures on the mesh by bump mapping or displacement mapping. In the latter case we take care to obtain a collision free simulation state by combining it with an adaptive subdivision scheme and a continuous collision detection method.
