Synthesis and Characterization of LiFePO4 Nano-materials Prepared by Wet Chemistry

2008
LiFePO4 is now considered as active cathode materials in the new generation of Li-ion batteries. This achievement, after the pioneering work of Padhi et al. [1], results from different steps: (i) the coating of the particles by carbon to improve electronic conductivity, (ii) the preparation of the material free of impurities that poisoned the electrochemical performance [2], and (iii) the preparation of the powders with nano-sized particles. So, that LiFePO4 is now available on the market exhibiting remarkable capacity retention close to its theoretical one (170 mAh/g).
