Abstract : This essay summarizes the history of the United States' stockpile of strategic and critical materials. It traces the major legislative and administration actions that have affected the stockpile and provides information to explain particular actions. Conclusions and recommendations are itemized at the end of the essay. Appendices showing external reliance and inventory status are also included. (Author)
