The Effect of Sleeping Habits of 5-6 Years Old Children on the Quality of Life

The study was carried out descriptively and comparatively to determine the sleeping habits and quality of life of children aged five to six years who were attending kindergarten and to determine whether sleeping habits affected quality of life. The research was carried out with 395 children aged five to six years in kindergarten and nursery classes under the Ministry of National Education in Aydin city center in the academic year of 2015-2016. In the research, the “General Information Form” developed by the researchers in order to obtain some information about the children and their families, the “Childhood Sleep Habits Questionnaire” which was developed by Owens et al. (2000) and tested for reliability and validity by Fis et al.(2010) to determine the sleeping habits of the children and the “ Quality of Life for Children “scale developed by Varni et al. in 1999 and tested for validity and reliability by Memik et al. to measure the health-related quality of life of children and adolescents between the ages of two and eighteen were used. The data obtained in this study were analyzed with the SPSS 20 packet program. Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis- H Tests were used. According to the findings, there was no significant relationship between sex and sleep in children, but it was found that there was a significant relationship between age, employment status of mothers, family income and children’s sleeping behavior. It was found that there is a significant relationship between sleeping habits and quality of life.
