Electrical conductivity in Al2(WO4)3-Al2O3 composites
1998
Abstract The electrical properties of Al 2 (WO 4 ) 3 –Al 2 O 3 composites containing various amounts of alumina are characterized by AC and DC methods. The composites with different Al 2 O 3 content were prepared by a new unconventional technique, the thermal decomposition of solid solutions of Al 2 (WO 4 ) 3− x (MoO 4 ) x ( x =0–3). The electrical conductivity of the trivalent cationic conducting compound Al 2 (WO 4 ) 3 can be improved by this method by about 1–2 orders of magnitude. The maximal enhancement effect of the conductivity is observed for alumina amounts of 50–60 mol.%. This increased electrical conductivity is found to be predominantly due to ionic migration.
