Characteristic Analysis and Parameter optimization of Synchronous Condensers

The application of new synchronous condensers is to meet dynamic reactive power demand during the rapid development of UHVDC power transmission in recent years. At present, the ability of dynamic reactive power compensation of synchronous condensers is the main problem when there is a malfunction in the system. In this paper, we study the reactive power responses of synchronous condensers in normal operation and different fault conditions. Meanwhile, through systematic analysis of the influence of electrical parameters on the transient and sub-transient characteristics of synchronous condensers under the single-phase earth fault, key technical parameters and measures for the optimization of dynamic performance in synchronous condensers are proposed. At last, PSCAD simulation software is used for simulation verification. The conclusions in this paper provide a reference for the optimization of the design of synchronous condensers.
