How many repeat family violence perpetrators were there in Victoria over the past 10 years? In Fact No.2

The Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) has released a short ‘in fact’ paper on analysis of the level of police-recorded repeat family violence perpetration in Victoria over the past ten years. The key findings of the analysis are that: Between January 2006 and December 2015, Victoria Police recorded 470,645 family violence incidents for 217,995 individual perpetrators. 38.4% or 83,705 family violence perpetrators had more than one family violence incident recorded over the ten-year period. Almost seven percent of all perpetrators had five or more family violence incidents recorded and 520 perpetrators (0.2%) had more than 20 incidents recorded.  The 6.9% of perpetrators that had five or more incidents recorded accounted for 30.7% of all family violence incidents, while the 61.6% of perpetrators who had one incident recorded accounted for 28.6% of all incidents. The proportion of perpetrators who had more than one incident recorded annually has increased significantly over the past ten years, from 18.4% in 2006 to 27.0% in 2015.
