A New Angiographic Technique in the Diagnosis of Liver Tumor

1973
The author examined 332 patients with primary and secondary liver carcinoma via “infusion angiography” consisting of 50 ml of contrast agent injected selectively into the hepatic artery over 10 seconds. This technique permits an increased concentration of contrast medium in areas of neovascularity with a comcomitant decrease in normal parenchymal contrast staining when the portal vein clears the agent selectively from nontumor areas, resulting in enhanced tumor visualization. Tumor staining was evident in more than 97.5% of 332 liver angiographies utilizing this technique.
