Summary of campaigns SGM-6 and SGM-7 of the DWPF scale glass melter

The sixth and seventh campaigns of the DWPF Scale Glass Melter have been completed. Simulated precipitate hydrolysis aqueous product was incorporated in the slurry for both campaigns. The feed for the sixth campaign consisted of frit 200/coupled feed with HAN aqueous. The feed for the seventh campaign consisted of frit 200 plus frit 168/coupled feed. The total glass production for both was 51,500 lbs. Primary objectives of the campaigns were to study the effect of organic compounds on the melter system performance and evaluate the effects of riser head insulation and a pour spout modification on glass pouring. This report includes detailed discussions of feed system performance, glass melting and pouring, off-gas treatment, sampling techniques, and instrumentation. Most of the results are applicable to DWPF. 11 refs., 79 figs., 27 tabs.
