Deep Integration of GNSS Receiver Functions into High Volume Platforms
2019
The pace of GNSS integration into high volume mobile platforms is accelerating, into low, mid and high-end device tiers. Samsung is one of the companies participating in this effort to optimize many GNSS receiver elements – including minimizing cost, power consumption and navigation errors, while maximizing opportunities to integrate Urban Canyon operation and high accuracy functions such as PPP and RTK.
This paper will cover a number of receiver elements critical to current and future high volume mobile GNSS. Elements addressed will include integration of GNSS into large scale SoCs (including antenna choices, RF/digital split, TCXO/XO options, software and memory). The importance of the trend towards the use of multi-frequency GNSS signals will be covered, and its relationship to accuracy in different scenarios. The paper will also look at a number of innovations, including interference mitigation, potential for multi-antenna solutions and integration with other positioning systems in high volume platforms.
