LITERACY IN THE MIDST OF A PANDEMIC: HOW ARE STUDENTS' LITERACY SKILLS?

During the pandemic learning in elementary schools experienced many obstacles. Included in this is basic literacy learning. One indicator of basic literacy skills is that students are fluent in reading and able to understand what is read. With the pandemic, how are students' basic literacy skills? This study aims to determine the profile of students' basic literacy skills during the pandemic. The research was conducted at SDN Lingkok Lima, one of the elementary schools in the Central Lombok district. The research used a survey technique. The instrument used is a test. The research subjects were 110 students. Sampling using the saturated sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The survey results show that the number of students at the beginner level is 7%, at the letter level 10%, at the word level as much as 11%, at the paragraph level as much as 12%, at story level 1 as much as 12% and at story level 2 as much as 48%. Most of the students are not fluent in reading and understanding the contents. Students who are fluent in reading and able to understand what is read are less than half of the population or only 48% of 110 students. These data indicate a decline in students' basic literacy skills during learning in the pandemic era
