A survey of the early Chinese translations of Shakespeare′s poems

This paper points out that William Shakespeare was first introduced as a poet rather than as a dramatist to Chinese readers.However,the first Chinese translations of Shakespeare′s poems were published in 1926,which is much later than the first Chinese translations of Shakespeare′s dramas.Meanwhile,Chinese academia attached little importance to the study of how Shakespeare′s poems were translated into Chinese before 1949.As a result,this paper tries to show readers in detail the three stages of Chinese translation of Shakespeare′s poems in the 1920s,the 1930s and the 1940s respectively,which could well contribute to Chinese Shakespearean study.
