Bone Metabolism Parameters in Patients Undergoing Intravenous Calcitriol Treatment

1991
Intravenous calcitriol can be considered as the best pharmacological approach to secondary iperPTH. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of I.V. calcitriol (0,015 μcg/Kgbw) on some parameters of bone metabolism in 12 patients on RDT with moderate iperPTH. In front of a marked and significative soppression of PTH (Δ=-64%;p<0,0001) and a mild decrease of A.P. (p<0,001), bone Gla protein did not show any significant change. Furthemore, bone mineral content values (measured at the distal third of the forearm) showed a mild decrease in 4 patients. Therefore, it is possible that 1,250H2D3 at high doses decreases the trabecular mass.
