Outpatient uvulopalatoplasty : a surgical procedure for the treatment of snoring

Snoring caused many problems for both family members and snorers. When conservative treatment is failure, uvulopalatopharyngoplasty; the surgical procedure is the treatment of choice. But the patient needs hospitalization and general anesthesia. It produces a wide area of wound, causes severe pain and many complications. The other treatment for snoring is laser -assisted uvulopalatoplasty, performed under local anesthesia. The patient does not need hospitalization. Moreover it gives a high success rate. When Co₂ laser is not available, the author applies a new surgical technique using incomplicated instruments. Uvulopatoplasty is performed in outpatient setting under local anesthesia. Thirty patients underwent this surgical technique. There is a 76.70/0 success rate without severe pain and serious complications. The patients can go to work as they need.
