"Risk Decisions following the 2010-11 Canterbury Earthquakes"

2014
This talk will look at a range of decisions central to the recovery from the Canterbury earthquakes, and how “risk” both affected and informed decisions. Starting with a broad overview of earthquake impacts and recover issues it will then focus on two particular case studies, to do with earthquake-prone buildings and with slope collapse in the Port Hills. The talk will conclude with a discussion of some of the features of seismic risk which make it particularly challenging to treat in comparison with other major hazards.
