EQUIPMENT FOR RATIONAL SECURING OF CARGO ON VEHICLES

2001
The aim of the report is to show on equipment making it easier for lorry drivers to secure different types of cargoes on vehicles in a legal and rational way. Regulations and standards for cargo securing and cargo securing equipment have been surveyed, to establish what forces the equipment shall restrain and other demands. A number of different types of cargos have been studied. Both frequent and such experienced to be difficult to secure. Securing of each of the cargo types have been analysed and functions missing, to be able to secure the cargo in a legal and rational way, has been noted. Existing equipment for vehicles as well as rail cars solving the cargo securing problems in the examples have been surveyed. When existing equipment don't fulfil required functions, proposals of new equipment have been worked out in the project. Some equipment as ideas only but others as developed prototypes. To find out if the proposed equipment is rational, the potential rationalisation has been calculated for some of the examples where the equipment is used. Existing as well as developed equipment has been analysed from a work environmental aspects point of view. Large differences in countries regulations in the field of cargo securing have been noted. Uniform regulations in the EU do not exist and the work to achieve such regulations has been started by this project. A number of new equipment has been developed within the project. To be able to spread the result, a vehicle has been equipped with some of the proposals and will be used at exhibitions and training. The report can be used by the industry when purchasing transports and by haulers and forwarders when specifying demands on new vehicles.
