In this lecture, the author argues that a lack of legitimacy forced the Bolshevik government inaugurated after the October Revolution to resort almost immediately to mystification of its actions and the Revolution in general. This mystification, insistent in its effort to control collective memory, later proved vital in upholding the Soviet regime, which would fall when the rationale for it grew dated
