Flowline for heat treatment of gas cylinders

1976
A flowline for the heat treatment (quenching and tempering) of gas cylinders has been set up at our Plant during reconstruction of the heat treatment department. Prior to the reconstruction, the cylinders were heated before quenching in a gas-fired compartment-type furnace and then fed manually to the quenchingtank. After the last cylinder inthe batch had been immersed in the water, the grid on which the cylinders rested in the tank was raised. Thus the cylinders in a batch spent different times in the quenching tank. The cylinders were tempered in electrically heated compartment-type furnaces. This technology called for much physical labor and made strict regulation of the time of cylinder exposure to air prior to immersion in water and of immersion time impossible. These difficulties were eliminated when the flowline for cylinder heat treatment (Fig. I) came into operation.
