1. Stepwise quenching may be used effectively in order to increase the impact strength of steel articles treated for high hardness. 2. The structure of steel ShKh15SG subjected to uninterrupted and stepwise quenching differs in the degree of α-solid solution inhomogeneity. 3. The level of martensite inhomogeneity concentration with respect to carbon may serve as an additional criterion for the quality of heat treated articles.
